The Three-Cornered War: The Union, the Confederacy, and Native Peoples in the Fight for the West

While I enjoyed this book, I can’t escape the fact that every time I picked it up, I was inspired to do something else. as you may be able to guess, it took me a really long time to read it!
I particularly enjoyed the way that the author creates multiple strands of narrative. Each chapter focuses on one of the main characters. They chapters overlap at times and mutually illuminate each other. Other times the chapters show us the action from very different locations. In the end, I found myself thinking that the book might have been better with fewer narrative strands/layers, and yet I could not decide what I would cut.
All in all, this is a great read about how the Southwest was involved in the Civil War and how the Civil War shaped the Southwest.
